Egyptian Journalists Syndicate and TikTok join forces to promote Digital Literacy for the Second Consecutive Year

The Egyptian Journalists’ Syndicate, in collaboration with TikTok, the world’s leading short-form video platform, conducted a training workshop at the syndicate’s training center.

This was part of an MoU signed last year between the two parties, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of digital literacy, verifying the accuracy of information, evaluating various sources, and delivering engaging digital content.

This workshop stems from the cooperation protocol established between TikTok and the Egyptian Journalists’ Syndicate, focusing on promoting digital awareness and media literacy while increasing knowledge on identifying misinformation and protecting online privacy.

This marks the second workshop TikTok conducted under the MoU, following the first session held in July of last year.

The workshop featured two sessions. The first session addressed best practices for creating engaging content with added value, emphasizing the importance of utilizing the platform’s creative tools, such as sound effects and interactive videos, to enhance the reach and dissemination of digital journalistic content.

The second session focused on addressing misinformation, understanding AI-generated content, and strategies for managing it. It highlighted how to comprehend AI-generated content and its implications, alongside presenting TikTok’s policies regarding this type of content.

The session also shed light on ethical considerations and the future of AI in content creation.

Commenting on the collaboration, Raghdah AlAzab, Head of Communications at TikTok MENA, stated: “We are pleased with our ongoing collaboration with the Egyptian Journalists’ Syndicate to promote awareness of digital and media literacy.

In light of the rapid developments in the digital space, critical thinking and the ability to verify information have become essential skills.

Understanding the difference between reliable and misleading content is no longer optional; it is a necessity that enables individuals to navigate the vast amount of information consciously and responsibly.”

TikTok is committed to building effective partnerships with various institutions to enhance awareness of digital safety, combat misinformation,

and promote a culture of privacy and data protection. Through the development of advanced technologies to monitor inaccurate content and the implementation of strict data protection standards, the platform strives to provide a safer digital environment.

Additionally, TikTok supports educational initiatives aimed at developing digital skills, focusing on the ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence in content creation.
