H.E. Mr. Hassan Abdalla, Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), and Dr. George Elombi, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Afreximbank, held a high-level press briefing today at the CBE headquarters.

The briefing detailed the final preparations for the 33rd Afreximbank Annual Meetings (AAM2026), scheduled to take place under the patronage of H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Alamein City from June 21 to 24, 2026.

The event, attended by over 100 local and international media representatives, underscored Egypt’s pivotal role in hosting one of Africa’s most significant economic gatherings focused on continental transformation and regional integration.

Egypt’s Commitment to African Economic Integration
In his opening remarks, H.E. Hassan Abdalla, Governor of the Central Bank, reaffirmed Egypt’s readiness to host the global event, highlighting the deep-rooted partnership between Egypt and Afreximbank.

“Egypt is honored to host the 33rd Afreximbank Annual Meetings in Alamein,” Governor Abdalla stated. “This reflects our unwavering commitment to supporting Africa’s economic integration, trade expansion, and sustainable development.
These meetings serve as a high-level platform to reform the global financial architecture to better serve the needs of emerging economies.”
Advancing Africa’s Financial Sovereignty
Dr. George Elombi expressed his gratitude to the Central Bank for its coordination efforts. He emphasized that AAM2026 would focus on actionable programs to accelerate Africa’s trade infrastructure and industrialization.

“AAM2026 will provide a valuable opportunity to strengthen partnerships and advance discussions on Africa’s financial sovereignty,” Dr. Elombi noted. He further highlighted the bank’s strategic initiatives, including the proposed pan-African Gold Bank, designed to strengthen central bank reserves and formalize gold value chains across the continent.
Strategic Financial Partnership and Regional Impact
The briefing highlighted the massive scale of cooperation between Egypt and the Bank:
$9.5 Billion in Financing: Provided by Afreximbank to Egyptian sectors over the last three years.
Afreximbank African Trade Centre (AATC): A landmark $250 million development currently under construction in the New Administrative Capital.
Economic Boost: The meetings are expected to significantly enhance Egypt’s position as a regional business hub and provide a major boost to the tourism and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sectors in Alamein.

The 33rd Annual Meetings are set to convene Heads of State, Government Ministers, Central Bank Governors, and private sector leaders. The four-day program will feature:
