NFSA Chairman meets with Jumia Egypt CEO to explore avenues of cooperation

As part of its commitment to keeping pace with the rapid developments in the field of e-commerce, Dr. Tarek El-Houby, Chairman of the National Food Safety Authority, held a meeting with Mr. Abdellatif Olama, CEO of Jumia Egypt and Executive Director of JumiaPay Group, along with a number of the company’s officials, representing one of the largest e-commerce platforms.

The two sides discussed mechanisms of cooperation to ensure the safety and quality of food products, dietary supplements, and sports nutrition sold through digital platforms, while ensuring that suppliers and restaurants registered on the platform comply with NFSA requirements.

 

 

The Chairman stressed that e-commerce represents one of the modern channels for food distribution, which requires enhanced oversight and the adoption of innovative mechanisms to protect consumer health. He also noted that the Authority is working to establish effective regulatory frameworks for online food trade, in collaboration with key market stakeholders.

For his part, the CEO of Jumia welcomed the cooperation with the Authority, affirming the company’s commitment to operating in line with the highest safety and quality standards, while developing internal monitoring mechanisms to ensure that safe and reliable food products reach Egyptian consumers.

Both parties agreed to form a joint working group to follow up on the implementation of monitoring procedures and to strengthen consumer trust in online food trade.

Jumia announced that the new warehouse is expected to create up to 10,000 direct and indirect job

opportunities through the ecosystem in the coming years, enhancing the company’s role

in supporting the national economy and empowering Egyptian youth.

now crowned by this new warehouse investment.

The Prime Minister also met with Jumia’s team, who gave him a detailed explanation

of the e-commerce logistics operations within the warehouse, providing him with first-hand

insight into how orders are managed and fulfilled—from receiving to shipping to customers across the country.

The warehouse inauguration is part of a broader strategic expansion plan being implemented

by Jumia to enhance its infrastructure across the continent, contributing to accelerated growth.

Similar facilities have already been launched in Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Ghana, and Morocco,
